Here's how the CD ignition conversation went:
Neil: how do you like the inductive ignition?
Don: it's OK, no complaints
Neil: does it idle OK? Are you ok with the torque numbers?
Don: um, well, yah, but what are you getting at?
Neil: you really need to look at CD ignition - in fact, you should consider that before new cams. The idle is superior, you'll feel the torque improvement.......etc.
Don: now you tell me. but I can't afford a CD system - you know, distributor, CD's wires, etc
Neil: tell you what, I have a used dual dist here I don't use any more and I can make you a smokin deal on it - otherwise it'll sit here gathering dust. It already has the fixture for the hall sensor. all you need are two single CD units and wires (i have coils). Tell you what, I'll send it to you next week. I just had it rebuilt so see if it fits and if it does, we'll talk about price. If not, just send it back.
Neil called me today to tell me that in the box he is sending me, he included a timing wheel and crank fixture for a Porsche, a TDC tool for installing the cams precisely, the dual dist, and an M&W CD to look at. He asked if I wanted his digital TDC tool to make sure I had TDC exact. No, that's OK Neil. Last time he sent me a tool, it was a $5000 scope to check a sensor - was paranoid about that thing until he called to confirm it arrived OK.
Didn't give him a dollar to do any of this, including the scope he sent a year ago. Between him and JB Racing, I don't go anywhere else for advice and parts. Neil is a super guy.
