If, as it appears from your opening post, the sunroof is locked in a closed position such that you cannot pull down the headliner, you might try to eliminate the resistance on the cables so that the you can slide the roof back. That resistance is caused by the gearing in the sunroof motor which meshes with the cables under the zipper lined opening in the rear of the headliner.

Open the zipper, and unscrew the motor/drive assembly so that they disengage from the two cables. Once the cables are disengaged at the motor/gear assembly, they should slide freely in their tracks with little resistance. At that point, you should be able to slide the sunroof rearward with simple hand pressure on the top/outside of the sunroof.

This should provide you with sufficient room to use your putty knife to separate the sunroof headliner from the leading edge of the sunroof.
