've located a mechanic where I live in Switzerland who comes highly recommended and he is proposing the following for my oil guzzling (1 liter per 350 miles) 93,000 mile 3.2 Carerra:
-- Replace my US cylinders and pistons with European equivalent
Mahle (Nickasil, which would raise the compression and
horsepower and cost $1,500 for parts
He is proposing a "used" set of Mahle cylinders/pistons "perfect
condition" from a car that had 18,000 miles before being
prepared for racing. Is this a good idea?
-- Upgrade to a new Mass Air Flow filter and remap/purchase the
DME chip. ($2,200)
-- Install a Cat by-pass ($360 for parts)
He claims that I should get between 250 and 260 horsepower from these modifications and increased torque.
And the bill on this work is $7800.-- with about 1/2 for parts and the other 1/2 for labor.
I visited his shop today and have never seen more Porsches in various stages of race preparation so was quite impressed.
Need a reality check from those out there who know a lot more than I do ...
