Replaced Alternator - Fuel Smell - Connected?

Hi All - I Just had an alternator replaced on my 79 911 SC. Got it back from the shop and there is a VERY strong fuel smell inside, potentially coming from the AC vent and/or defrost. I initially thought it was due to filling it up right when I left the shop, but it has been a few days now, and several trips/miles (over 60), and the fuel smell is of head-ache proportion...even with the windows down. It gets worse when the car is running Vs. sitting for a while. Can replacing the Alternator potentially lead to an issue that may be causing the fuel smell? Any places you would recommend checking to diagnose? Thanks!
