This was to cure a no start condition (basically no spark at the plugs).
BTW, the mechanic opened the DME and couldn't find any obvious breaks, cold solder joints.

Did you try your DME in another 911 to confirm the DME is no good? Could be the coil or the most common DME relay which provides power to the DME computer.
