I have documented elsewhere my purchase of a 1975 RHD Euro Carrera Targa, and the preparation of the 73T engine bay to receive the type 911/83 2.7 Carrera 210bhp engine and gearbox, complete with oil pipes and trombone cooler. It is worth reminding us that this is the exact same engine that was fitted to the 1973 Carrera RS, complete with MFI and '019' pump etc. I cannot think of a more appropriate engine to have stumbled across than this, save for an original ST engine and that would be $$$$$.
Here I will document what I can of the engine 'refresh' and installation, as this is being carried out at Francis Tuthills.
The first job was to run the 1975 Carrera and declare that the engine was running clean and well :-) The second job was to remove it and get it in to the engine rebuild room and give it a thorough clean.
The basic list of job was :-
Compression and Leakdown tests
Replace all fuel pipes and cold start pipes
Replace the large heat pipe from the heat exchangers
Replace the MFI Pump belt and adjacent tinware
Remove cam covers and inspect / torque bolts
Remove cam carrier ends and fix any leans and replace
Swap over regulator from 73T so as to keep existig dash guages (?)
Bench service the engine and static tune.
Cosmetic clean up only.
