Jim, just remember that if it's a 76 Carrera with the 3.0 engine it will be a gray market car and should have an import sticker on the drivers door post that mentions who imported it (it won't be Porsche, it should say someone elses name) as that's how gray market cars got to the US. The DOT requires some indication permanently afixed to each car indicating the importer.
We got no 3.0 liter cars until the SC in 1978, (non-turbocharged 3.0 liter anyway) the 76/77 cars were the first cars to use the SC engine. They are very nice cars but you should be sure to check on the condition of the car in terms of rust etc. as it probably lived a portion of it's life in Europe.
