This may be a creative use of statistics...

It may not be accurate that it is an 8.5hp gain at max power.

It may be a maximum gain of 8.5hp, at the point of the greatest difference, not necessarily at the objective point of maximum engine power.

If the curves are real... (an assumption that I don't hold as absolute, they may or may not...)

Max power is all the way at the top, and the gap looks to be about 2-3hp (each band of white or green is 10hp...)

But lower, at about 6000RPMs, the curves have the greatest amount of difference, and it does look to be nearly 10hp difference at the widest point... 8.5hp is within that realm...

But who knows. it could be completely wrong.

But it wouldn't be the first time that a company touted the best looking statistic, rather than a more industry-standard technical stat that doesn't look as good.
