First off, is there power going to the pump? If there is, you probably don't need to screw around with any wires.

If there is power going the pump and it still doesn't work, then there's probably something wrong with the pump. Mine stopped working and I traced the problem to the pump. I decided to take it apart because, what the hell, I probably had to buy a new one anyway. There are a few small screws on the bottom and the pump slides apart. When I got mine apart, it appeared the wheel inside had some gunk on it. I cleaned the wheel until it spun freely, put it back together, and it works like new.

You might try the same. Of course, if there isn't power going to the pump, this is a null point. BTW, to check the power, hook a meter up to the two wires and have someone inside turn on the pump. If the meter registers around 12 volts, the pump is getting power.
