Peter,

While you certainly can have someone do these things for you, they are fairly simple to perform on your own. If you can replace an alternator, you can do these jobs.

You only need basic hand tools (plus the spark plug wrench that came in the car's tool kit), a way to get the car safely off the ground and some time and patience.
