I didn't go for looks on mine. I just built a rectangular box with my two 12" subs in it. Plenty loud for me, but the best part is they're easily removable for track events (I needs me my music on the way there...) I can also put the cargo cover over everything, but in some ways that's just asking for a thief to get in there.
I actually have a handle on the top of the box to make them easier to carry. Also, take a picture of the wiring on your amps if you remove the amps a lot too, so that you can put it all back together quickly and without trying to figure out what does what.
Probably the weakest link, in my opinion, are the front speakers. You just can't get that good of sound quality (or volume) out of 4x6 speakers in the doors, and it's not easy to put different size speakers in there. I left good Kenwoods in there and put in a REALLY good set of Hertz tweeters on the A Pillars facing the driver and passengers.
