No offense Curve, but the Euro has nothing to do with the problems Greece is having, but everything with incompetent gov't, the general attitude of the people with regard to (paying, or lack thereof) taxes and unsustainable perks (pension @ 53, earlier for gov't employees)
If everybody would pay their taxes, they could keep all other perks and retire at 53 and pay off their debts without the financial help of the EU. Think 30 billion euro per annum. They really have no one else to blame than themselves for the mess they are in and they should not bark at the EU for demanding guarantees for bailing them out. Either they want to get out of the mess on the terms of the people providing the money, or they should get out of the euro zone and try to do it the Greek way. Whichever they choose. There will be no such thing as a free lunch for the Greek people on my tax euros.
Then again, the euro countries should not have let Greece in on the euro to begin with, because the problems they have now have been around since forever. Any politician in the EU acting surprised is a liar and an idiot and should be removed from office. When Greece still had their own coin, there was a reason for it being worth next to nothing and bizarre inflation numbers compared to Northern Europe. The same is valid for Italy, Spain and Portugal.
