Actually, the MKIIs are going for about $550 now so the issue is not value, but purpose. Since I have other .45 pistols (Sig 220, etc.), I guess the question is which one do I want? The Ruger is a good long term investment, but I've always liked the 1911 style pistol. An old worn out 1911 was the first centerfire handgun that I learned to shoot with when I was in the Navy. The Remington R1 is a well made but very basic 1911 without any fancy add ons so it is very much like a 1911A1.
