Extremely High Idle Problem
1971 911E with Weber carburetors
Bought the car last fall. Numerous little problems. However we have had a lot of fun with it until yesterday.
Driving down the highway and the throttle stuck. Pushed the gas pedal twice and the RPM came down.
I thought the problem was the linkage at the front of the carburetor. Used penetrating oil to clean the linkage then a graphite lubricant. Linkage seemed to work a lot better.
Now my bigger problem. When I start the car, it is idling at +3000 rpm without touching the gas and the linkage on the carburetors indicate that it should be at the normal idle of around 1100 rpm. The throttle valves that I can easily see appear to be opening and closing properly when the car is shut off.
Any ideas what I did that could have caused this problem?
