I used R1200S as a starting point for proportions and no other references except those already in my subconsciousness... well a couple of photos of Ohlins for sure. 
Modo was used for polygonal modeling with subdivision. Not very handy for vehicle design, but it has other advantages. Rendered in 3dsmax with VRay.
