Most dealers have S1000RR's on the floor, many have multiple colors available. I have no idea why BMW would want to flood the market with more production when there is plenty of inventory on the floor. Walk into virtually any BMW dealer and they can have you in the seat of a S1000RR within a few days, if not a few hours.
BMW has handled the S1000RR's intro about as well as can be done. Not perfectly of course, but very very nicely. They're doing fine with this model and the R bikes in general. The problem children are the K's and the non-GS F's. If you want to look at a marketing gaffe, I'd point to the stupidity of naming the F800GS and F650GS (actually 800cc) twins, especially since the later designation confuses it with the old F650GS single. Whomever came up with this scheme needs to have their head examined.
