I'll have 245/50 15s on 8" wheels all 'round. We'll have to see next spring. The car will be finished then. Really.
My car had the stock flex coupling in the steering column replaced with a much thinner VW unit (Bug I think) It appeared to fit perfectly, though my mechanic removed it. The car had been a 6 cyl track car at one point, perhaps tweaked to overcome some serious lowering? I may look putting it back later on.
