When I was shopping for an M3, I saw two that had very obvious, major collision repairs - the kind that Stevie Wonder would see, yet their CarFaxes were clear. If there
is a collision reported on CarFax, you don't get much detail. Do a google search and you'll see many more examples.
In theory, it's a good idea, but it would only work well with a much larger data collection mechanism.
CarFax is a triumph of marketing. (and yeah, I fell for it)
