If ....in its installed position.....it affects the car by showing a net (car) reduction of lift.....then in some way it *produces* downforce....either directly or by altering the airflow over the "car-body-itself-as-wing"...
Yes, it may be a technicality or a semantics issues but to say it doesn't "produce" downforce, just "lessens uplift"....is altogether an aburd compound statement as stated. It alters the airflow to produce a changed result on the car, but maybe not enough such that the NET RESULT" is seeing a total or net downforce on the car. So it can *produce* downforce, but not enough to *result-in* downforce overall.
We don't need to obfuscate this further by throwing in lingo like "laminar" vs "turbulent" flow....Reynolds number.....whatever....we can keep the discussion centered to the known changes that result from their inclusion or not.
The issue surrounds the words "producing" vs. "resulting-in"......different things.
