Hi guys,
After a trip in my 1980 Euro SC to the Alps and some hard driving the engine is now smoking on the over run... popped into the Official Porsche Centre in Insbruck, Austria and they reported it was warn valves sucking oil in and the engine burning it.
Im guessing this is correct becasue my local Porsche Centre said the valve guides where warn several years ago.
I've also got 2 broken head studs, but they never caused any issues.
Due to the above im thinking engine swap rather than reebuild.
Also I have the chance to buy either a 1985 or 1988 3.2 Carrera engine.
I would prefer a 3.6 993 engine but that adds extra $$$$ including Instant-G or Patrick install kits etc.
I'd prefer cheaper and easier.
I have read that with the following parts the 3.2 engine would basically bolt right up :
"A 3.2 litre Carrera engine, the DME brain, DME wiring harness, DME relay and barometric sensor, tachometer, fuel pump, fuel filter assy, and the fuel lines from the fuel tank thru the tunnel all the way to the engine bay. These are all the components to properly install the motor into earlier cars as Porsche would install it with all the factory correct hardware. The only fabrication necessary to perform the installation is to hole saw a silver dollar size hole to push the wiring harness thru the firewall (grommet is on the harness), and to make two "L" shaped brackets to hold the brain up off the floor so it could not have an opportunity to get wet.
Is this correct and would there be a difference in install between an early 3.2 (915) car's engine and a later 3.2 (G50) car's engine?
I have a Fabspeed header/muffer and a Findanza lightweight flywheel on my car at present! The exhaust would work fine but not sure about the Flywheel?
Also I take it the WEVO engine mounts I have would also be ok still to use?
I know quite a few of you have done the same or similar installs and any info would be great.
Thanks
