On my SC it has this cap, it is in fact threaded and screws down onto a male cylindrical part on the sender. When I tried to remove it and it just spun, the male cylindrical part that the cap screws onto ended up being broken. I had to replace the sender and the cap screwed onto the sender without issue. Hope that helps
