location of freeze plug?

whats up guys.
i've been waiting to get my car back on the road for like 3 or 4 months after the timing belt went. top-end rebuild, buncha new seals, bunch of delays etc etc. i got my engine back together the other day and of course, i was ecstatic. i began to pour coolant into the resevoir when all of the sudden i start hearing "drip.. drip.. drip.. dripdripdrip.." and looked over to see coolant pouring out of the front of the head. the sight of this, after waiting four months to get it back together was roughly equivalent to the feeling of being kicked in the balls and drowned at the same time. argh.

anyways, the hole its coming out of is just above and behind the timing belt cover, a little bigger around than a nickel, and non-threaded. i was never even aware of its existance. my father and mechanic both say its probably where a freeze plug should go. this would make sense, as i had the valves done and (if it is indeed a freeze plug hole) the machinists probably took it out and didnt replace it.

somebody please give me some information about this mysterious hole..

thanks much
ian
