Tim,
I would recommedn that you double check the smog cert for the 76S. When I read the book it did state "all 911S models with california emissions" but this statement appeas to be meaning that the the number just included 76S for CA in the the total car count.
I believe it was not until 1978 or 1984 when the 49 state car became a 50 state car. I don't know which state you reside in but here in CA they are strict on the smog emmission testing. The only way in is if you move to CA, then you can get an exemption.
You may want to inquire to other CA 76S owners as to whether there is a sticker that says that their cars are CA emmission approved or not.
