Removing front torsion bar cap?

I have already lowered the rear of my 67 and am attempting to lower the front. The car sits really high and I have already loosened the adjustment bolt to the max so I understand I need to remove the torsion bar cap and turn it to give me more adjustment. From what I read, the cap should come off pretty easily. Mine is not. I am assuming it is because the torsion bar is still putting pressure on the cap. I attempted to jack up the brake/a-arm a little bit hoping this would relieve some pressure but this did not work. Any advice or tips? Will the adjustment arm still be touching the stop when there is no pressure on it?
Thanks
