Also you should make a card board ground strap cover to fit the end of the strap, this will keep it from grounding to the chassis

Yes I know why they did it. I guess normally one does not need to remove the ground unless changing the battery. It's a good idea as long as you know someone has not installed another ground from the battery, say for a car amp, 2-way radio or something. I guess you would know if you disconnected it and still had lights, etc. When disconnected I do cover the cable end with some insulating material so it won't make contact.

Wonder if Trucker677 has found his problem yet?
