With my first 911 years ago, washing resulted in a no-start and then a shaky start.
Since then, I use a heavy-duty plasic sheet under the lid to cover the engine before washing.
To prevent accidental starting with the plastic over the engine, ignition key is under the floor mat.
Works great on the 911 and now the 993.
I suggest re-checking the fuses and make sure that the DME relay really works.
