964 Oil leaks & fixes thread.

I do not post too much, mostly read the boards. 964's do leak pretty badly by nature, but not all leaks are caused by "case cracks", "cylinder heads" recalls, case bolts and other terrifying causes widely spread on the net.

A lot of leaks are easy/fun to fix DIY. They also can turn out to be nightmare and $$$ poured in to pockets of "wrenches"/indies with questionable reputation.

Anyway, here are few fixes that you can do without removing engine from the car and minimal amount of special tools. Initially I'll cover timing chain covers, power steering pump, oil return line - which are very common. My car is 1990 5sp, 71K miles.

1. Timing chain cover leaks.

All gaskets causing leaks are marked red. Can easily see from under the car:

Driver side cover is very easy to get to. You need to remove mufflers, cat and rear engine tin. If you break some exhaust fasteners (and you will) - it is normal. Order all new.

also "Zero out" engine and remove distributor - follow widely described procedure.

If you have correct spark plug wires they are labeled with distributor and spark plug numbers.

So here it is:

and new parts

To get pass side cover off, you'll need to support engine by jack stands, remove engine mounts, and remove bumper.

Disconnect belts and AC compressor:

and AC compressor (leave AC lines connected):

Next is to remove engine pulley/balancer bolt :

.... have to split posts - reached max number of images per post. To be continued ...
