Third gear problem - 915 - more questions

So,

I have torn down the 915 and am in the process of getting parts for the rebuild. I have not disassembled the input shaft itself yet. One thing that still nags me is to understand why I can't slide the 3/4 operating sleeve all the way into third.

From the image it is clear that the operating sleeve teeth are rounded and that there is some bad wear on the synchro band. But when I align the dog teeth with the (bad) operating sleeve teeth I would expect it to go into gear. Well. it does not. It seems to hit something and won't travel all the way.

Could this be caused by the asymmetrical wear profile of the 3rd gear synchro band?

From what I understand the operating sleeve is supposed to hug the synchro band and sort of compresses it a little bit in the process.

Could there be more damage to the brake band - anchor block assembly that becomes obvious once the shaft is apart?

I hope you guys I have talked to so far (John) don't mind my sounding like a broken record

Ingo
