There are brake bands inside the synchro ring; as long as the operating sleeve and synchro ring are moving at different speeds these keep the synchro ring from collapsing and allowing the operating sleeve to slide over and engage the dogteeth. Wear of the dogteeth may have allowed parts to get out of position The brake bands, anchor block and thust block could be jammed and preventing the the synchro ring from collasping. Jim
