Would hate to go with a cone air filter ... but limited for options, need help!
I will soon be installing a MAF (a ghetto home brew one) into my 944NA. Hence, I will not have an adapter that would connect the 2.5" end of the MAF sensor housing to the factory air box.
I will not be able to make or get a custom adapter to connect the MAF to the stock airbox (at least not until I've done some tests).
This brings me to my question: How much crappier are the filtration capabilities of a cone air filter (such as K&N) compared to the factory air filter? I know I will be blowing hot air into the engine, but I would like someone to tell me how much dirtier that air would be too. I've read up to 18 times dirtier on one post (not on Pelican though)! Could it be true.
I also saw some cone shaped air filters at my local autozone that were made with the same paper like material that normal air filters are made out of. These just happened to be shaped like a cone. Would this be a better short term solution as compared to the metal-gauze or whatever-mesh type K&N?
This ghetto cone setup will only stay on the car until i've done some tests and will be replaced with the stock air box as soon as I have an adapter shipped to me (so we are talking a week max here).
Once again, thank you for all your help.
