this is one of those urban myths.

while a paper filter can indeed capture more material, that does not mean that it does a truly better job of protecting your engine.

the fact of the matter is that after decades of K&N making filters, and millions of cars running them, there is no evidence whatsoever that any of them ever suffered from running that filter, assuming that the filter was properly oiled, installed and maintained.

the reality is that the material that gets past the K&N that might have been caught by a paper filter is so small that it just gets burned up.

i've been running them for about 30 years, on at least 20 of my own cars, and countless customer's cars. i've torn down many of the engines. not one ever suffered from the filter.

the only people that have had problems with the filters have not followed instructions. the ones that think they are bad are just stuck on the hype floating around out there, and are not the type to modify their cars (either because they are too broke or cheap, or they bought into the "porsche did everything that could be done" nonsense)

an airbox or shield around the filter will go a long way toward maximizing power
