i get a good even coat my way, similar to how you would paint a car. farther away, with dusting strokes.
the idea of the oil is to give the dirt something to cling to, and to fill the gaps in the membrane. it is not to provide a liquid barrier. it it's wet, you used too much. it should look dry.
by the way, i had this very discussion with K&N. they agreed with me. the problem is that their squirt bottles do not provide the proper atomization, and they are trying to get away from the aerosol cans.
