this is something i never expected to happen. but it did and we found out why(180gr burn rate) these rifles were never designed as in the inner gas workings jiving with 180gr powders.
when this happened, it sent me over the edge for buying ALL the spares for them.
and you will find out there somewhat spendy.
and when ya own (3) of them..............................$$$$$$$$$$$$$ X$$$$$$$$
but now having all the spares in the unlikely event of failure i have a nice warm fuzzy now.
toptip: get a decent sniper drag bag. go to sadlak or smith enterprise here in tempe,az. and buy ALL THE GAS CLEAN OUT TOOLS and combo tool /cleaning kit for it. billricca.com also sells m-14 goodies USGI.
i also use a blackhawk cheek pouch. so btwn stuffing the basic usgi combo tool and cleaning kit into stock(if you have the 2 hole stock) and all the basic field repair parts into cheek pouch i have enuff for field repairs. back at camp or truck i have the sniper drag bag with the bolt tool and all the clean out tools to take the entire damn thing apart out in BFE or at a match.
i have owned mine for 20+ years now and this was the 1st time i had ANY FTE or FTF on them and i have shot a hell of alot of pretty nasty surplus ammo without a hiccup.
my extractor flew into low lunar orbit in the middle of the dez after a string of 10rds fired into the hillside. then the "dreaded click". amazingly i found the extractor and extractor spring on the dirt about 3 feet away from where i was standing.
all in all a pretty robust rifle. this fubar was on my socom.
never had it happen on my SAI super duper match mcmillian stocked stainless kreiger barrel rifle nor my sons mcmillian stocked arrington custom built "loaded" version.
