flywheel

first of all I need to say I'm not sure how the 914 clutch/pressurplate assembly goes together, the only clutch assebly IO have experience working on is my Golf, and even that's been a while

does the surface of the flywheel need machining, if it is uneven? I'm assuming that this area of the flywheel makes contact with the clutch disk.
my pressurplate has been resurfaced, but has become slightly oxidised from sitting for 8 years (the guy I bought the engine off of tore it down, had the bottom end rebuilt and bought a whole new top end eight years ago, and its been sitting since)
can I take some 320 grit sandpaper to clean it up?
