if it's been sitting a long time most certainly the fuel pump should come out and the old crap cleaned out. Then you can test it's running as well. I've freed up a few pumps by reversing the polarity a few times till the motor then spins. The old gas is quite the sticky tarry mess and the pump can't spin in it. When you jumped directly to it did it buzz?
Old, tar like gas is a real bummer. I hope you don't have much.
