I have a '95 993. When I purchased it, it had 59,000 miles. After a PPI, I drove it from TX to WI. I've had it for approx 2 years and the engine purrs, with no unusual oil consumption and/or smoking. I don't think these engines need to be rebuilt unless they were maintained improperly. There is a 993 on Rennlist that has over 250K and has never had the engine open. He claims it still runs strong. It's true what they say - these engines are bullet proof.
