Most of the reason an V8 costs that much is due to all the custom parts.
You'd be making a custom bell housing adapter, engine mounts, clutch, spline adapter, perhaps oil pan and cross member, it adds up. Then the wiring, the real fun part. And if you're not making it, you're paying someone else large sums to make it. Custom part fabrication is expensive. A lot of measuring, design, and maufacture.
If it would fit, I don't know. You'd need to find out what the width of the engine is. Some V engines (notably a 928 engine) don't fit due to width.
As for if it's a good idea, that's up to you. Don't think it'll cost less than 10k. And if it doesn't cost that much, it would cost the equivalent in time.
If you want to, and have thought it through, go for it.
A lot of people say the only engine that belongs in a 944 is a 944 engine. I disagree. Put whatever you want in it.
