Don't worry, I couldn't figure it out either, but it turned out to be possible afterall. My 76 has no brake booster, but has the covers/carpets etc. If I slot the roof's one end below the front latch panel it fits in (Obviously it isn't an issue with longhoods, but a bit of a pain with shorthoods.)
IIRC, when facing the trunk with the roof's front edge on your left and the rear edge on your right, it just about clears the fusebox. Can attach a pic later if it doesn't make sense.
Haven't folded my top since figuring it out!
