The thing is, there are regional variations on this.
I was at the big P AG b'day bash at Pebble Beach a few years ago, and some guy I'd never met before commented that my hat did not match my shirt pattern - I was amazed, but he was a Californian...
At the other extreme, in my fair town you can barely tell the millionaires from the homeless people -- definitely not by their clothes -- close inspection of the skin surface usually does the trick, however.
Add to that that many of the loggers and farmers are hippies.. and the rest lesbians, and you can't tell a book by looking at the cover.
Did I mention all the Marines and Airborne vets with world peace and bio-diesel stickers on their pickuos?
