The rule of thumb I like to go with is that any mods I make must be undo-able with ease. I have a chip in my 944 that gives me a bit more power and smooths the idle, but I kept the stock chip and can always put it back if I want to revert.

One step further, I put a switch in the glovebox to flip on and off between stock and custom chip.
