951 melt down

Had a major melt down in my '86' 951 last week end. The car was running well. Going uphill at about 80 mph in 4th, came on boost and blew out a large cloud of black and white smoke. I slowed down immediately but the car continued to run well. I continued about 2 more miles and slowed down in traffic. That's when it started smoking badly. Seems like it was mostly black smoke coming from under the car. I pulled into the next gas station and called AAA.
That night I pulled the drain plug from the oil pan and got about 1 1/2 quarts of coolant before a saw any oil.
Since then I have pulled the head. The head gasket looked good except for one crack at the #4 cylinder seal so I am thinking that initially I blew the head gasket. No coolant in the cylinders. I also pulled oil filter housing and all seals where in good condition.
My next step will be to pull the oil pan. I need to figure out where all that coolant came from.

Does anyone out there have any insight?
