Your friend means well but probably doesn't know anything about Porsche's proprietary synchro design used in your gearbox. His advice is dead wrong. Your gearbox needs more synchro friction than your standard Borg Warner design box. GM synchromesh will make it more slippery and hurt your gearbox. Don't do it.
