There is a difference between just getting rid of the points and boosting up to a better electronic ignition. It will make your life a lot easier to get rid of the points, but maybe you should consider an even bigger upgrade. I have the pertronix points on one of my 914s, and an Allison high voltage electronic pointless ignition on the other-the difference is noticible. I get better gas mileage, faster cold starts, and better performance from the allison, which cost a little over twice as much. Just something to think about.
