My favorite hike is in the Palisades. I think it's listed as Los Liones trail. Where Sunset hits PCH, go inland 2 or 3 blocks (north side of the street). The 2nd block in is Los Liones. I can't recall the name of the third street from PCH, but that's the one I take. You drive up through a residential neighborhood to where the street ends. Park there, as the trail head is there. Then hike up about 4 or 5 miles to catch the backbone trail that takes you along the Santa Monica Mtns. There's a lookout that is about a quarter mile off the main trail (it's well marked). It looks out over the western half of LA (to the south), the Pacific Ocean (to the west), and the Santa Monica Mtns (to the north). You can turn around there, or keep going to Topanga and beyond.
