glad to hear it but you are the exception, not the example
if i was in the market for one and $500 was my ceiling i would look for a used pioneer avic Z series model. they are quite amazing and reasonably priced when buying used. the only differences between the 4 models available is software, and if you are somewhat adept at finding things in online forums the newer versions can easily be found.
