I use the nitrile gloves for grinding and handling metal like that. I would only use welding gloves for welding, or at least 100% leather gloves. For me, I find that rubber palmed gloves are just that much more resistant to abrasion and wear.

I have at least three pairs of gloves in my truck right now, and four in the house. I was ripping a standing seam metal roof off of a house yesterday with nitrile palmed gloves. I came to hate those 7 plus dollar work gloves that don't last a week of real work.
