I used a very light coating of Hylomar on the rear cover piece on the tranny that just came out of the car. I had inspected the 1st gear ass'y and put it back together and shoved it in the car. I turned out to be a bad tranny, which started this whole schlemozle (a David Hobbs word).
Just finished removing that tranny and pulling the gear stack out. The thing did not leak at the cover. But, the gasket is history, the Hylomar was not kind to it. The damn thing did leak at the input shaft seal which was new and installed with the stack in. Maybe that's not such a good idea. I will put no sealer in between the intermediate plate and the case because I will be using two gaskets, apparently. Someday, this will all be behind me (pun intended) and I can drive the car. Hah!
