Well wrapping is a good solution. An alternative takes longer, but you could easily have a pattern die-cut or even hand-cut out the houndstooth shapes yourself and apply them individually using vinyl decal stock. You can control the size of the pattern, is the especially nice part.
I actually recently did this to one of my black helmets with the reversing arrow optical illusion with black reflective tape but larger than this shows.
It's been a long winter.
But the result turned out pretty cool.
