When I had the 15" cookies on my 911, I ran 205/60-15 tires with no problem. I am currently using 205/55-15 on 16x6 fuchs.

Where is your tire dude getting the rating for your car? Most Car seller databases do not include much data on early cars such as ours.

Looking at Tire Rack, High Perfomance All season 185/65-15 tires have an 88 load rating. This is a load rating of 1235 lbs/tire, or 4,940 pounds for all four tires. I would surprised to find that your fully laden weight is over 3,000 pounds or 750 pounds per tire or 60% of the load rating.

205/55-15 tires typically have even a higher load rating.

Get a new tire guy.
