Very well put. I think if you get into policing for altruistic reasons (i.e. genuine desire to make your community/city/country/world a better place), you'll be a good cop. If you get into policing because you have ego, have authority issues (known or not), like the idea of power, or are looking for a good salary above everything else, you'll be a lousy cop.
